New York Girls State XC Rankings Week 5

The Trailer:  The one known truth is that Convent of the Sacred Heart is the top Class C team following a win at Brown, but the rest of the class rankings here are a mysterious murk of possibilities riven by results that jump all over the place from week to week. Bronxville followed up its top C team performance at Manhattan with a 59 TR speed rating at Section 1 Coaches that raised a lot of questions about the Bronco lineup. Mattituck and Poly Prep ran well at Brown also and were rewarded with big jumps in the rankings, but Brown is a highly competitive meet with a modestly challenging course that gives a brief spike to the speed ratings of teams running there year after year. Saranac, Canton, and Waterloo were the top three teams in the hotly contested Burnt Hills Race 2, but the speed ratings were relatively modest. Clinton has strong ratings at V-V-S but is an extremely skewed team. There are also questions about the status of missing runners on a number of teams. So the Class C rankings are definitely not set in any rock harder than sandstone as we advance to county meets that hopefully provide more of a clue about what type of lineups the Class C teams will be taking to sectionals and conference championships.
