Familiar Faces Find Success At Manhattan Invitational - Full Recap

Girls Eastern States Individual

Notes: No question the record is on the mind of every front runner in the race.  Katelyn Tuohy saw it go down in front of her last year, and was looking to take a go at it in 2016.  She did not expect the girls of Fayetteville-Manlius to be surrounding her the first mile, causing a mid-race reworking of the race plan.  Tuohy edged her way to the front across the bridge, and began to pull away.  Lydia Olivere saw the move, and knew that she couldn't let Tuohy go.  Olivere surged up the backhills to the halfway mark, leading the race for the ascension.  Over the top, and down the other side, Tuohy began to come back on the new leader.

When the course finally flattened out, Tuohy found her footing, and surged to the front.  She knew the kick was drained from her legs, so it was just a steady push to the finish.  Olivere wouldn't give up the fight, closing the whole stretch, but Tuohy would out-hold the lead through the line.
