State Title Hopes Start At Section 3's Chittenango Invitational

Notes: We saw blips of improvement last spring from then-junior Hannah Butler.  A big race at State Quals in the spring gave light to what would be a retooled training methodology over the summer.  Consider the plan in action, as Butler cruised through the would-be Sectional course, out and away from the competition.  Butler was rarely strained, periodically peaking at her watch to catch her pacing.  Behind her was Emily Young, another runner taking big leaps since last we saw.  She too was making improvements on the track last spring, and has transitioned well to summer training.  The pair tangled through the first mile before Butler pulled away.

Notes: While the team depth has rarely been as tough as on the boys side in Section 3 Class A, there seems to be winds of change up north.  While West Genesee may have squeaked by with three points over Liverpool in the team scoring, its the team's potential that looks promising.  Their top runner, Carly Benson, has spent much of August recovering from a mid-summer illness.  With her back in the mix, West Genesee could have three girls in the Top Ten at sectionals, or even higher.  Add in the potential improvements towards a mending Kendall Dombroske, who ran on their State Qualifying 4x8 last spring, and there could be a new challenge rising in Section 3.
