Watson Opts For Olympic Trials After All

Sammy Watson, the national under-20 women's 800-meter champion, said she will run in the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials.

"It worked out where she was able to stay on the West Coast,'' Rush-Henrietta coach Mike DeMay said. "The discussion was that the pressure is off.

"Not too many 16-year olds have made it to the trials for track and field. Why not take the opportunity?''

There was already a plan for Watson to attend a NIKE Elite Distance Runners Camp in Eugene during the trials. She will fly to Portland and run in at least the first of the three rounds of the women's 800 during the trials Friday.

"She's pretty relaxed,'' Outler said. "This is all just extra.''
