Ronel Forde Launches 3-Foot Personal Best To Capture Triple Jump State Record

New York State Boys Triple Jump All-Time List

We have to admit, we didn't see this one coming.  Shaker senior Ronel Forde shattered the oldest Boys Indoor Track and Field State Record on the books last night at the Eastern State Champs.  On Forde's final attempt, after having already won the competition, he unleashed a monster of a jump, hitting 51-6.  His full jump progression can be found below.

  1 Ronel Forde Shaker 51-06.00
      47-10.75 47-09.25 FOUL 48-03.25 43-05.50 51-06

The mark was a significant personal best for Forde, so much so that his prior best, indoors or out, was a 48-2.5, the only time he had ever surpassed 48-feet.  Heading into States this weekend, prior to last night, Forde was seeded at 47-11.  Now, he is about 3 and a half feet further than that.  The mark is now NY #1 and US #1 for 2016.

You can see Ronel Forde's progression below, year over year.

The former State Record was held by Chris Lopez of Archbishop Molloy.  The mark of 50-7.25 was set at the Indoor State Meet in 1991, making it the longest standing overall State Record on the books: before last night, that is.  Earlier in the year, we mentioned that no one had broken a boys triple jump record, class or overall, for 23 years.  Forde stepped up his game to make the change.  The mark stands as US #15 All-Time. His mark would also stand as NY #2 All-Time Outdoors.
