Former Section 3 Standout Breaks 4min Mile, First Ever Run In Staten Island

In his senior year at Mexico High School, James Gowans took 6th in the Indoor Mile at the 2013 Indoor State Meet, in a time of 4:20.05.  Flash forward three years, and Gowans, now running for Cornell has been dropping his times better than any of his graduating class.

After a breakout 1:49 in the 800m last spring, his primary focus in the mile had lowered down to 4:04.35 last February.  One year later, and Gowans makes history.

Running at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility, James Gowans broke four minutes in the mile for the first time ever.  Not only was it the first time for him, but it was the first Sub-4 Mile run on Staten Island.  Congrats to the Cornell Junior!
