State of the Action: With the pace going out at a blistering pace, Jess Lawson had used her experience from the past two weeks to her advantage.  Finding that perfect mix of finishing kick, and paced middle-race running is not an exact science.  So much so, that Lawson found herself sixth as they entered the long, finishing straight, iconic in the Van Cortlandt Park layout.  And that's exactly where Lawson herself laid it all out.  She kicked past several talented runners from around the Northeast, pushing the pace on every stride.  However, homeschooled top returner Maddie Davison of PA had very much the same plan.  She passed Lawson on her final kick, to capture the overall title.  Lawson would still power away to second place overall, bettering her time from her qualifying performance her freshman year.  Many bodies came across the line behind her, but a pair of New Yorkers who were on the bubble at both NXN and Foot Locker regionals were determined to make their decision worthwhile.  Sage Hurta pushed to the line, holding onto Rhode Island State Champ Ellie Lawler, finishing just a step behind, unknowingly taking 9th overall.  Behind her, Katie Munks was in much the same position, battling the crowd, unsure of where she was placing amongst the top ten.  She crossed the line two seconds ahead of the next competitor, solidifying herself a ticket to San Diego.  Carly Benson was New York's top non-qualifier at 14th, but has two more chances to make the big show.
