NSIC Press Release #3: Championship Athletes Continue to Commit

More big names have officially signed on to compete at the 25th Annual National Scholastic Indoor Championships, held March 14-16, 2008 in New York City.  This is the meet staff's third press release announcing top athletes committed to the event.

The 25th Anniversary of the National Scholastic Indoor Championship will be held at the New Balance Track & Field Center March 14-16, 2008.

Athletes that will be competing at the 2008 NSIC:

- Akinto Boone (NY): Currently ranked #3 in the 400m (48.34), a member of Newburgh High School's nationally ranked relay teams.

- D'Angelo Cherry (GA): Currently ranked #1 in the 55m, personal best of 10.32 in the 100m.

- Chris Copeland (VA): Currently ranked #2 in the high jump (7-00).

- Khaliff Featherstone (PA): Currently ranked #2 in the 400m, with a personal best of 47.15 and is a member of Simon Gratz' nationally ranked 4x400m and Sprint Medlay Relay.

- Phyllis Francis (NY): Currently ranked #1 in the 600m (1:29.65), sophomore national record holder, 2007 800m Junior Olympic Champion (2:08.36).

- Patrice Gates (GA): Sophomore national class record holder in the weight throw.

- Daniel Gooris (NM): 2007 Junior Olympic decathlon champion.

- Amanda Hunter (CA): #3 returning triple jumper, with a personal best of 41-02.25.

- Jasmine Joseph (CA): 2007 California State Champion at 400m (53.15), member of Long Beach Poly's nationally ranked relay teams.

- Andy Kahl (NY): Currently ranked #3 in the high jump (6-11.25)

- Rachel Laurent (LA): Currently ranked #3 in the pole vault, with a personal best of 13-07.25.

- Morgan Leleux (LA): Freshman national record holder in pole vault.

- Chelsea Ley (NJ): 2007 Foot Locker finalist, freshman national record holder in the 5000m.

- Akawkaw Ndipagbor (CA): 2007 Junior Olympic Champion at 400m & 200m (53.73/24.21).

- Abby Schaffer (PA): 2007 Penn Relays pole vault champion, 2007 State champion in the pole vault.

- Maurice Valentine (CA): Has a personal best of 7-01.25 in the high jump.

- Nick Vena (NJ): Current Freshman national record holder in the shot put.

- Isaiah Ward (MI): Currently ranked #2 in the 800m (1:52.80), and a member of Mumford's nationally ranked relay teams.
