2015 Cross Country Sectional Championship Previews

Section 1 Boys

Class A

Position Team TR Top Runners
1 Arlington 164.4 Stack, Morrison, Sbrolini, Dillon, Ragusa, Rubin, Foley
2 Suffern 158.0 P. Hennelly, Hochheiser, Giordino, M. Hennelly, Boston, Tso
3 Fox Lane 156.4 Stafford, Rooney, Aryeh, Sacks, Molk, S. Rooney
4 Mamaroneck 155.2 Morton, Young, Rosales, Ballard, Silverman
5 North Rockland 151.4 Morales, Guznski, Serino, Tuohy, Guzinski, Patterson, Peters
6 Scarsdale 151.2 Gr. Crowler, Ge. Crowley, Rudloff, Cather, Brotman

Fast Runners: Greg Crowley (Sc) 175, Conor Stack (A) 175, Samuel Morton (M) 174, Sean Murray (John Jay-East Fishkill) 168, Patrick Hennelly (Sf) 165, Eric Sbroloni (A) 165, Cameron Stafford (FL) 164, Reece Ragusa (A) 163, Leonard Pietafesa (Port Chester) 162, Ben Hochheiser (Sf) 162, TJ Morales (NRk) 162

Summary: Reigning champ Arlington will be seeking its 5th sectional title in 6 years, and projections indicate that the Admirals should score about 43 points and finish much further ahead than they did last year in a 71-78 nailbiter over North Rockland. Still, Suffern, Fox Lane, and Mamamaroneck are the top candidates to make a run at Arlington if the Admirals' ship goes at all astray. Scarsdale's Greg Crowley, Arlington's Conor Stack, and Mamaroneck's Samuel Morton have the highest ratings, but none won a County meet and the individual title candidates may have a wider field this year.

Class B

Position Team TR Top Runners
1 Brewster 159.0 Hazelwood, Delfay, Jacobsen, Riolo, Greene, Siranaula
2 (Projected Winner) Pearl River 158.8 Mahoney, Russell, McCann, Elmendorf, Harding,Vierun
3 Somers 155.0 G. Fusco, M. Fusco, Worsley, Papalia, Hannon, Shelby
4 John Jay-Cross River 153.8 Nohilly, Smallige, Stewart, Buckley, Jenkins, Kennedy
5 Tappan Zee 153.2 Hehir, Collins, Wunsch, Castellano, Guzewich, Kenny

Fast Runners: Eion Nohilly (JJCR) 182, Kevin Hazelwood (B) 181, Gref Fusco (S) 168, Jemar Ortega (Nyack) 164, Mike Delfay (B) 163, Brendan Hehir (TZ) 163, Brian Mahoney (PR) 162, Matthew Fusco (S) 161, Aidan Russell (PR) 161, Henry Driesen (Pelham) 160, Travis Elmendorf (PR) 160

Summary: The battle to replace reigning champ Tappan Zee as the king of S1-B will be about as ferocious as it gets, and the Dutchmen themselves are at least on outer edges of this crazed maelstrom. Brewster has been at the top all season but a late season surge by a pack of Pearl River Pirates has moved them to a projected 60-71 wiinner over the Bears, with Somers at around 85. The runners don't care about projections of course, and a big part of the equation relies on the big unknown of how the 5th guys for Brewster and Somers will do. What is very well known is that the battle up top between John Jay's Eion Nohilly and Brewster's Kevin Hazelwood should be the best showdown in the B races this year.

Class C

Position Team TR Top Runners
1 Pleasantville 162.6 Dorflinger, A. McDermott, Yahia, D. McDermott, Blasdell, Bronkema
2 Bronxville 158.0 Ryan, A. Rizzo, M. Rizzo, Kawakatsu, Vollmer
3 Irvington 144.4 Carmosino, Denahy, Dwyer, Gallin, Turner,
4 Valhalla 143.8 Orozco, Avolio, Bindlin, Bedmore, Jacob
5 Dobbs Ferry 140.2 Sheely, Opacic, Ginghina, Cattabiani, Ferland, Molz, Greco
6 Pawling 140.0 Whitworth, Badia, DelBalzo, Pina, Christian

Fast Runners: Drew Dorflinger (Pv) 177, Luke Carmosino (I) 174, Ryan Gallagher (Bc) 174, Sean Ryan (Bx) 169, Aiden McDermott (Pv) 168, Connor Sexton (RN) 167, JC Yahia (Pv) 164, Matt Whitworth (Pw) 163, Alex Rizzo (Bx) 159, Matt Rizzo (Bx) 158, Declan McDermott (Pv) 157, Giovanni Orozco (V) 157

Summary: Pleasantville won the S1-C race by a huge 25-88 margin over Bronxville last year, but what once seemed mainly a coronation race for the Panthers' third straight sectional title has tightened up a bit recently as the younger Broncos have bucked upward. Still, Pleasantville won at Westchester County and has about a 5 TR point margin over Bronxville that should be enough even for a not as deep squad this year. What is far more uncertain is who the top guy will be here, as Irvington's Carnosino was the top C guy at the County meet, and Pleasantville's Dorflinger and Briarcliff's Gallagher will be trying to leash the Bulldog at Bowdoin.

Class D

Position Team TR Top Runners
1 Haldane 147.0 Henderson, Farrell, Silhavy, Petkus, Gannon
2 Keio 102.0 Takaki, Nakakuki, Ono, Yoshihisa, Nishida

Fast Runners: Theo Henderson (H) 165, Nick Farrell (H) 160, Adam Silhavy (H) 142

Summary: Haldane will roll to its 8th straight sectional win and then go to States with a great chance to move way up on last year's 8th place finish there. Nick Farrell won the S1-D race last year as a freshman, but senior Theo Henderson is back on the trail this year and is the favorite.
