Beaver River's Brett Neddo (no. 325) and Travis Edwards (no. 324) finished 26th and 28th to lead the Beavers to their 15th state championship title in Canton last year.

This Year's Outlook

The Beavers will be looking for state championship number 16 this year, and with 5 of the top 6 back they look well set to win out in S3-D again and take another crack at States with the same pack strategy that saw the top 5 finish within 32 seconds of each other at Canton. Brett Neddo and Erik Campeau are the top guys back from last year on a Beaver team that has some fluidity during the season in placement order.

Norwood-Norfolk

Colors: Green and gold

Norwood-Norfolk's Kyle Fulk at right took 6th at States to lead the Flyers to 3rd place.

This Year's Outlook

The Flyers have by far the best top 3 in Class D with Kyle and Connor Fulk and Adam Saucier, and if meet results were based on average times for team, they would have won at States by a big amount since they averaged 12 seconds better than Beaver River. Until the Flyers can pull up their #4 and #5 positions, they will likely have the best TR speed ratings in Class D but still be running behind the Beavers. Sophomore Riley Haas may be a key figure in pushing Norwood-Norfolk to the top.

Lake Placid

Lake Placid's Karl Schultz placed 13th at States for the 5th place Bombers.

This Year's Outlook

The Bombers have their top 4 back from last year's 5th place States team, and Karl and Scott Schultz give the team a strong top 2. Lake Placid is not a deep team, but if it can find one more guy in the 140 TR range, it could be state champs.

This Year's Outlook

The Wolfpack is one of the S6-D teams that is hoping to take advantage of the fact that perennial power Barker lost almost all of last year's varsity. Behind States finalists Josh O'Dell and Henry Sullivan, CSP may have just enough strength to capture the title.

Maple Grove's Ryan Hetrick (no. 646) was running with a mob in the mud at States as he pulled in a 14th place medal for the Red Dragons.

This Year's Outlook

With S6-D champ Barker in rebuilding mode in 2015, last year's Sectionals runner-up (by 2 points) Maple Grove may have its chance to take its first sectional title in 46 years. States finalists Ryan Hetrick and Frank Zuroski are back to lead a likely battle with Clymer-Sherman-Panama for the sectional title.

The Indians lost Sectionals champ and States medalist Cole Blocher to graduation along with Ryan Griffith, but they still may have enough runners back to contend in S3-D if they can get some help at the back. Devin Murphy and Taylor Philpotts will try to be the frontrunners in 2015 for Sauquoit Valley.

The Blue Devils have a solid enough pack to move up at States if everyone is back and healthy, but that's the big question mark. States medalist Nick Farrell returns as the sophomore frontrunner and should keep moving up the charts in Class D.

Trumansburg's freshman frontrunner Evan Whittaker worked the hill at States last year on his way to a 15th place medal as the Blue Raiders finished 7th.

This Year's Outlook

The Blue Raiders have 6 of 7 back from last year's 7th place States squad, but they will have some work to do at the back to ensure that they hold off other contenders in S4-D such as Afton and Delhi. Evan Whittaker had a great freshman year as he captured a medal at States, and he is back to lead a Trumansburg team seeking its 3rd sectional title in 4 years.

East Rochester

Colors: Brown, white and orange

East Rochester's Dawson Bathgate was leading the States race as the runners went up the big hill, and he finished up 4th, as did his Bombers team.

This Year's Outlook

The Bombers finished a strong 4th at States last year, but after losing 3 of their top 5, they will have a challenge repeating in S5-D during a rebuilding year. Senior Dawson Bathgate starts the season as the top runner in Class D, and East Rochester will just have to see what develops behind him.

Tully lost States finalist Brad Phelps to graduation but have 5 guys back from last year's varsity, and that may be enough to make the Black Knights contenders again in sectionals though they are running far behind Beaver River. On a developing team with lots of juniors, Jason Phelps steps in to try to take over the frontrunner role played by his brother last year.
