NY-XC-2013-guide
For the first time in NXN Nationals history, the guys and girls teams from the same school got to stand on the champions' podium together last year as the two Fayetteville-Manlius squads celebrated their triumphs.

This Year's Outlook
Following up on last year's Nationals victory will be big challenge for the Hornets with longtime frontrunner Bryce Millar and four other seniors on that squad in Portland having moved on, but the pieces are there for a great season. Peter Ryan returns as one of the top runners in the state with Joe Walters and Patrick Perry ready to form part of the best lead trios, so with the usual huge development at the back of the FM pack, the outlook is still pretty bright for another run at the state championship and another trip to Portland.

This Year's Outlook
Like their nemesis Fayetteville-Manlius, the Warriors have three guys back from a Nationals squad that placed 4th, but due to NY's crazy rules for States only Ben Petrella has experience there. As the top runner in the state, Petrella will be leading Liverpool in its campaign for thier first States berth in 8 years and a repeat appearance at Nationals, and with Ty Brownlow and Ryan Comstock the Warriors will have the top rated trio in the state and will be looking for some big developments from the younger guys at the back. And again, why was their no room at States for the #4 team in the nation? Just unfathomable. Also look out for transfer Terrell Coleman, who has track PR's of 1:55.04 and 4:26.89, which indicates rapid improvement, coming from a program that were no slouches themselves.

GuilderlandFlying Dutchmen

Section: 2Class: AColors: Red and white

Guilderland's Noah Carey (no. 229) ran to a 9th place finish at States last year and is the top returning junior in the state.

This Year's Outlook
The tide sweeping the fast-rising Noahs of Guilderland upward has carried the school to the top rated spot in S2-A to begin 2014, and with Carey still only a junior and Tindale a freshman, there is room to go much higher. With a pretty solid group of seniors behind the two frontrunners, the Flying Dutchmen have a good shot at their first sectional championship in a quarter century.

CorningHawks

This Year's Outlook
With the top 2 of Brian Bates and Peter Kane back from last year's 5th place States team along with Kevin Moshier and Dan Gahagan, Corning has a lot going for it. The Hawks will still need some development and added depth though because Ithaca's pack is not that far behind in the race for the S4-A title.

This Year's Outlook
Shen got to States last season for the first time in 5 years and took a great 2nd place. A return trip this year will be a challenge in a very tough S2-A with a team that returns 3 guys from last years's varsity, but a top four of Mitch Halpern, Tyler Schmidt, Alex Matson, and Henry Christopher gives Shen the best top 4 pack in the section and with some back-line development the team should be fighting for a repeat title this year.

Section: 1Class: AColors: Maroon and Vegas gold
NY-XC-2013-guide
James Asselmeyer led the Arlington Admirals last year in his senior season.

This Year's Outlook
The top two guys from last year's 9th place States team are gone, but the rest are back, and that should give the Admirals the edge in the S1-A again. If Matthew Dillon can return to last year's pre-injury form and seniors Reece Ragusa, Eric Sbrolini, and Conor Stack up their ratings as expected, Arlington should move up at States this year.

After a close loss in Sectionals last year, the Little Red seem to be running a ways behind reigning S4-A champ Corning again, but with three of their top four back including Jake Avery, Neil Kolhatkar, and Hunter Hartshorne, Ithaca may be able to make a run for the title if there's enough development at the back.

This Year's Outlook
A team that finished 6th in Sectionals and sent no one to States last year seems like a very unlikely one to be rated at the top of S11-A, but 11 of the 12 guys from Section 11 at Canton last year were seniors, so you know that reigning S11-A champ Sachem North was hit very hard by graduation. The rest of the top S11-A teams also lost a lot of guys except for Sachem East, which returns 5 of the top 6. Seniors Nick Pandolfo, Matt Patsy, and Max Osterburg form a strong top trio, and it may be enough to get the Flaming Arrows their first sectional title in 6 years.

With reigning S8-A champ Syosset losing 4 of their top 5, the 2nd place Vikings are well positioned to take advantage with 6 of their top 7 back. States finalist Peter Kirgis returns to lead a pack including Aaron Siff-Scherr, Andrew Adelhardt, and Jordan Hurt for a top quartet that could win Port Washington's first title in 4 years if they can get a little more help at the back.

This Year's Outlook
Colonie was a ways back at Sectionals last year and they have a bunch of teams ahead of them this year in the S2-A race. But the Raiders have their top 3 back, headed by States medalist Jake Johnson, and though there are the usual issues with depth, Colonie is still within striking distance in S2-A if they can bolster the back line more.

Calhoun is not a very deep team, but it does have of 4 of the top 5 back from last year and is in the thick of the battle in S8-A with States finalist Elias Platanias as the Colts' frontrunner. All of the returning group are seniors however, so this would be a great year to make things happen.

The Tigers have States finalist William Young back along with Samuel Morton and Ittai Rosales to form a good top trio, but even though everyone from last year's varsity is returning this year, the team needs to have more depth to make a run at the S1-A title.
