| There had been some surprises in the trials of the 4x400m for Boys and Girls.
They had run two of their alternates to make it through the round, so
it would mean they would have plenty of company in the finishing
stretches. It forced Richard Rose to exert himself more than normal,
but not enough to be a factor for the final the next day. In that
final, with two legs subbed in, the field was there's for the taking, and
they took off to a clear lead by the first exchange. Nobody was
catching Boys and Girls, en route to a NY #24 All-Time winning mark.
