Heading into the race, junior Conor Lundy had done his homework. He knew what kind of kick the likes of Jeremy Spiezio and Luke Gavigan would have if the race turned tactical. So he chose not to let it. Eerily similar to Noah Affolder's time trial in the unseeded heat before, Lundy knew his best shot. After 400m, when everyone was still together, Lundy took off. He continued to surge far and away, so much so that rest of the pack did not go with him. For two more laps, he continued to power away. If he was going to lose the race, he was going to make the field have to work to catch him. No one would as Lundy crossed the line unchallenged in a new personal best, and NY #2. Spiezio would cross next, taking the D2 State Title, with Gavigan in third, capturing D1. |
