The race saw drama on both ends of the spectrum as the pack began to whittle away. In a race that saw a group of 8 athletes leading in the opening lap, was reduced to four one lap later. Anna Kostarellis saw her opening, and broke away, giving her clear access to the barriers. Beatrice Boylan responded, pulling away as well, yet unable to catchup. However, with the bell going off to signal the last lap, Boylan kicked in another gear, passing the junior, and sprinting towards the finish. Kostarellis responded, however misjudged her steps on the water pit, and opened up an opportunity for others kicking. Emily Burns would win the sprint to the finish, with Elsa Cole taking the D2 title. |
