Event Info: 2014 Winner: Izaiah Brown (Amsterdam) 47.80, State Record: 45.93, Meet Record: 46.79, State Qualifier Mark (FAT): 49.44 (D1) - 50.64 (D2)

State of the Action

After a one year hiatus, the rivalry is back. In 2013, Izaiah Brown captured his first 400m State Title over Richard Rose in Middletown. With SAT's falling on the same day last year, a rematch would have to wait another year.

Well, the boys are back in town. Richard Rose has backloaded his season, making sure not to peak too early. Some of his best races are coming now, with a 47.11 in rough conditions at the qualifier. His season's best is far ahead of the field, but we'd be silly to rule out Izaiah Brown. Brown was recovering from a three week respiratory infection last we saw of him at the Eddy meet. It didn't stop him from capturing four gold medals. Two weeks later, and fully recovered, Brown was throwing down season bests left and right, topped off with a 45.8 anchor leg at State Quals. When the gun goes off, Brown will be ready to run, and we'll see the conclusion of one of the longest running 400m battles in State History, after four years.

There are plenty of other notable athletes in the field as well. Kory Fitzgerald and Kyree Johnson both are poised to break 48seconds, playing a big impact on the race. And how is this for a shocker. Indoor State Champ in the 55m Carnell Noble, after a season-sidelining hamstring injury, is back in the 400m for D2 as one of the top seeds! He'll battle Devin Rose for that distinction.
