State of the Action

This was the match up that was supposed to happen back in March. But a pulled hamstring pulled Thompson out of the race the following weekend. Now, Brenessa Thompson will be looking to regain her sprint crown, coming in as a two event defending champion in the sprints. It has been four years since a school other than Medgar Evers has won a title in the 100m or 200m, and Thompson will be looking to keep that legacy alive. But look out for Lanae Tava Thomas. This freshman is progressing each week, tying the freshman state record earlier in the season. The Jamaican native knows how to run in the heat, and could bring some of that heat with her to the final. Ariel Strunkey is the only other athlete under 12-seconds, and could put pressure on the top seeds.

Tapestry put on quite a show at their qualifier, going 1-4 in the 100m finals. Taylor Alston comes in as the Top Seed for D2.
