Loaded 800m Field To Highlight Saint Anthony's Invitational

Boys Distance

Spotlight

800m

Consider this the highlight of the meet. You have two state record holders in Mikey Brannigan (Northport) and James Burke (Port Jefferson). You have two reigning Indoor State Champs in Luke Germanokos (Lynbrook) and Burke. Add in NY #2 (Shamar Powell - Walt Whitman) and NY #5 (Charlie Theiss - Ward Mellville) Indoors, and you have a full field well capable of all going under 1:53. But how does the race play out? Burke is known for his sit-and-kick style indoors, and if the pace goes out slow, its his race for the taking. Meanwhile, Germanakos is known to power from the gun, tiring the crowd out. With those tactics, he becomes the favorite. And then there is Brannigan, who plays both of those games with tactical precision. He will be ready for anything the field can throw at him, and with his recent 2:09 performance at Penn, he looks like the safest pick of the bunch. This is one to watch.

Mile

Another quality race here. Mike Grady (East Meadow) headlines the field (we'd have loved to see him in that 800m final as well) at 4:15, but St. Anthony's own Pat Tucker has hit 4:15 as well. Add in his brother Joe, and Marco Pompilj (Collegiate) and you have plenty of talent ready to dip under 4:20.

3200m

Marco Pompilj (Collegiate) will be holding off a flood of Black and Gold. Pompilj's 9:17 seed will see strong competition from St. Anthony's Pat Tucker (9:12), Joe Tucker (9:30), Chris Langer (9:32), and Freddie Buckholtz (9:34).
