State of the Action: Running the rounds at the state meet is a much different task than winning a single invitational heat at the Armory. State of the Action: The race was loaded with top XC talent. Girls who peaked perfectly for their state meet. For the girls of Section 4, who had been only running modest times this season, both had coaches who said they had a big race waiting in the tanks. If ever there was a race, this was it. Freshmen Jessica Lawson looked like a seasoned pro, as observers could tell with just four laps to go, she looked mighty relaxed running in the third place position. Hearing the bell lap, the Class B XC State Champ dropped the competition behind her, and sprinted to an over 20-second PR in the event, after only putting in 25-mile weeks this season in training. Just wait until outdoors. | |||||
