2025 Section 7 State Qualifier Cross Country Meet

Friday, November 7 @ Cobble Hill Golf Course, Elizabethtown, NY

Race Schedule: Coaches meeting in the clubhouse at 12:15 PM.
Second meeting ASAP after

awards for NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship determinations and Players of the Game.

Timing and Scoring Courtesy of Adirondack Coast Sports.

Girls Race 1:15 PM
Boys Race 2:15 PM
Awards ASAP after the last race at the

Golf Course if the weather is cooperative and the Elizabethtown school if the weather is inclement.
I

have a space reserved AFTER 4:00 PM.

Please instruct your runners NOT to go over to the Elizabethtown School until awards. They are in

session. We will have portapotties at the course and the county buildings also have facilities.
Your

runners should come dressed ready to compete.

Etiquette Items:

1. Stay off the greens!!! The golf course has been great about letting us use the facility. The

greens can be easily damaged with foot traffic.

2. Please pick up after yourselves the less garbage left on the ground, the quicker we can get

finished and go home. Have your kids check for missing clothing/shoes. I will hold stuff for a

short time but I have supplied a surprising number of kids with their racing spikes over the years

from shoes left behind and never claimed.

Racing Format (for newer coaches): Make sure your competitors have raced on six dates! These

include your invitational meets.

Although everyone will run in the same race the scoring will be different. We disaggregate the results

by Classes B, C and D. The top seven runners from the winning team in each class will be the school

team at the NYSPHSAA Meet the following week. The first five finishers, not from that seven man (or

woman) team, will be the Section 7 open runners in that class. Those open runners may come from the

winning team if they are ahead of runners from competing schools. Coaches must let me know if they

are substituting a runner into their school team as open runners must be designated at the state meet.

If you know one of your qualifying runners is not attending the NYSPHSAA Meet be sure to let Kathy,

Matt Medeiros and I know! We can substitute the next runner in line to go.

FEDERATION MEET: The week after the NYSPHSAA Meet is the Federation Meet. Section 7 is allowed to

send two male and two female runners to this meet as courtesy qualifiers. If one or more of our

runners is able to qualify for that meet by performance at the NYSPHSAA Meet we can send more. That

is rare for us. At the Section 7 Meet we will rank our top five runners by finish for those two spots.

Coaches must know at the Sectional Meet if their qualifying runner(s) want to go to Federations. If

not, we move on to the next qualifying runners down to number five. Although Kathy and I will submit

names of our runners at our NYSPHSAA Federation Meetings, this year you coaches will have to enter

your runners on the Federation/Nike Nationals website. A reminder that, runners in the NYS

Federation/Nike Race must wear their school uniforms. If you enter runners in the OPEN Nike race that

day, they CANNOT wear their school uniform.

Steve Peters from Adirondack Coast Events is handling our scoring. We will still need help in the chute

to keep runners in order as I will be writing their bib numbers as a backup. Boys coaches/assistants

please help with the girls and girls coaches/assistants with the boys. Please make sure all your runners

have the number assigned them. If you have a bib assigned for an absent runner, please return the bib

to Steve Peters.
Coaches please make sure your area is picked up after the races. The golf course

should look pristine when we leave. We also should have at least one portable defibrillator at the golf

course.
Can I get volunteers? We will need some girls teams to pick up the course markings while we

are waiting for the boys results.

All Star Photos

Alvin Reiner, from the Press Republican, should be at the race to take pictures of our All Star team. If

you have a runner who has finished in the top fifteen at EITHER the CVAC Meet OR the Section 7 State

Qualifier, the student should have their individual picture taken. We will also be taking pictures of the

Section 7 teams and individuals who have qualified for the NYSPHSAA Meet as groups for the NYSPHSAA

Meet program.

Ray Holmes Team Sportsmanship Award We need to decide on one boys team and one girls team.

Boys and Girls Coaches of the Year

NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Award We need to decide on one boy and one girl each for Classes C and

D. The runner must have qualified to move on to the NYSPHSAA Meet. If possible, we would like to

recognize deserving Seniors. I will get a list out to all of you.

P
layer of the Game Award - Jeff Wood from Off the Field Sports is sponsoring a Player of the Game

award for (presumably) a member of each winning team. Although thats probably your top runner, I

would urge you to consider, if appropriate, a runner that may have overachieved at the State Qualifier

to get your team over the top.

NYSPHSAA Meet Numbers and Bib Pickups

We need to figure out the best way to get you your race numbers, pins, and bibs next Saturday. Last

year Matt Medeiros was able to hand out numbers and pins at the Saranac tent near the start area. A

reminder that you will also have a hip number in addition to the front bib. We will check to see which

side the timer wants it on.
