We have completed our coverage of the NSIC and NIC meets with a few photo pages, plus quotes from athletes. For the sixth straight year, the two 'national' meets were held the same weekend on the East coast. And as is their custom, Dyestat runs comparisons to satisfy the fans of each meet and the sport. This year, NSIC wins on the number of Dyestat Elite performances. But when the meet is scored as a dual meet, it's NIC. Read the story and make the comparisons. Then let's all go outdoors.
The Photo Galleries of the National Scholastic Indoor Championships (NSIC) taken by PennTrackXC March 12-14, were published in error. The Metropolitan Athletic Conference (MAC) licenses photographers to offer pictures for sale, and PennTrackXC did not know of that restriction. We have removed the photos from the site, and apologize to MAC for the misunderstanding. We will continue to process photos from the meet in the course of our coverage.
Nicole Leach broke the PA State Record in the 400 by 1.95 seconds. While you\'re contemplating the significance of that, it was also the 2nd best 400 of all-time. 52.19 says it all. Leach also took 3rd in the 200 in 24.10. Her 23.91 in the Prelims set a new PA record. And Cardinal O\'Hara ran 10:10.80 in the DMR, which got 3rd at the meet, but was the 7th best all-time. 7:53.74 would get you a win in most 4x800\'s. It got O\'Hara 4th. Other PA highlights included Mycaiah Clemons of Valley getting 3rd in the 60 Hurdles in 8.71 seconds. Amy Kelly ran a strategic race through the first 3/4\'s, and then simply went for it all, forcing the pace and running out of steam over the final lap. She finished 6th in 4:55.16.

Easton sophomore Lindsay Regan competed for three straight days at the two national meets. She walked away with one championship (NSIC), a 2nd (at NIC), and raised her own PR and PA Indoor State Record to 12-09.50. Her vaulting coach, Michael Lawryk of Vertical Assault, describes her day at NIC. On Saturday, PennTrackXC talked with Lindsay after her first All-American performance at NSIC.
Nicole Leach astounded the crowd and herself with a historic 52.19 US #2 all-time and new Junior National Record. Cardinal O\'Hara challenged the who way, and finished 4th in the 4x800 in 7:53.74. And two more National Records went down on Day Three at NSIC.

Gavin Coombs of Griswold, CT won both the mile and the 2 mile at the NSIC. Early in the afternoon he ran 4:10.93 to win the mile. Then he ran the 2 mile and won with a time of 9:13.08. In the 2 mile he split a 4:37.6.
Xavier Carter sets new National Record of 20.69, besting the old record of 21.02 set back in 2001 by Brendan Christian.
With the US#1 time coming in, the Westfield boys 4x800 retain their spot as the nation's best by winning the national title in the 4x800 with a time of 7:50.44. Salem senior Shayla Jemmott wins a second national title for Virginia from NSIC by winning the triple jump with a leap of 38-8.75.
Saturday night, 3/13, Shana Woods from Poly, Long Beach, CA set the National Record for the girls' Pentathlon.
Xavier Charles sets sights on the National Record of 21.02 in tomorrows final.

Friday is the relaxing day at the NSIC meet. Not the wall-to-wall finals of Sunday. Boy, was that assumption wrong this year. TWO National Records on day one. A surprise visit from Bay Shore to push Mountain View to one of those records. And an even bigger surprise, with the appearance of one X-Man from Florida - one Xavier Carter - to set the tone for a Saturday and Sunday that could lead to even more records.
O\'Hara runs 10:10.80 to take 3rd at NSIC behind Patriot Track Club, 10:09.31 and Wachusett MA, 10:10.40.
The Northern Region represented Virginia well through Friday's events at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships held at the Armory in New York City. Lake Braddock had two All-American individuals as junior Brad Clark pulled out a fifth place finish in the 5000 meter run with his time of 15:24 with fellow Lake Braddock junior Ashley Haislip tied for sixth overall in the high jump competition with her 5-5.75 clearance. The Westfield boys' relay team of James Scheiner, Chris Courson, Chris Black, and David Groff finished fourth in the distance medley relay with a great time of 10:12.89.
Both Mountain View and Bay Shore smash the National Record in the Girls DMR.
Another middle schooler takes on the high school talent. This time, Briana Jackucewicz runs 16:43.02, setting a new US Scholastic Record.
Xavier Carter is running the 200 Meters @ the Armory this weekend.
Steve Hallinan, Cardinal O\'Hara: Anchored DMR in 4:13.0, and was caught by Hakon Devries of NY and Michael Banks of Wachusett Regional, MA. The three teams ran the 4th, 6th and 7th best all-time prep DMR\'s. PennTrackXC talked with Hallinan after his race.

West Catholic\'s Nicole Leach will stay in New York to compete the entire weekend of nationals, according to a statement she made to Dyestat Monday evening. On Saturday, PennTrackXC reported that Leach would attempt to compete in both New York and Baltimore on the same day, Saturday, March 13th. The attempt, with the 400 Trials at 4:40 at the National Scholastic Indoor Champs, and the other, the SMR at 7:45 at the Nike Indoor Classic, would have been difficult, at best. Leach is ranked #2 in the US behind Natasha Hastings, while the West Catholic SMR is ranked #1. West Catholic was hoping to go after the US SMR record. But Leach says she is focused on the 400. Leach told DyeStat last evening, \"My plans as of now are to be in New York the entire weekend, and they will most likely stay that way. I feel as though I need to be in New York to get the best results in the 400. Whether I do the 200 is undecided. We\'ll have to go after that (SMR) record another time.\" And she has the best wishes of her West Catholic coach, Lenny Jordan. Jordan told PennTrackXC Monday night that Leach is not even entered in the NIC race. \"She\'s doing what she has to do, and we wish her nothing but the best.\"
