Murphy: From Shoveling Snow to 9:14 3K National Record Jan 07, 2017

Saturday morning at the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games in Staten Island, NY, Lake Braddock Secondary's Kate Murphy broke the national senior record. She achieved this feat by clocking a US #1 9:14.12 time in the 3K at the Ocean Breeze facility. She went thru the opening mile in 4:59.

Kate Murphy of Lake Braddock won the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games 3K in 9:14.02 to set a new national senior class record in the event. Melody Fairchild set the previous class record of 9:17.4 in 1991. The only prep in U.S. history to clock a faster indoor 3K time is Mary Cain, whose national high school record stands at 9:04.51.
