Class A

Team

Favorite: Too close to call.

Challengers: If there was one race to watch, this would be it. 6 teams have the ability to take the top spot. If there is any faltering from anyone, the team scores shift. Going in, Fayetteville-Manlius looks to have an edge, but Northport ran very well at their divisional. The Sectional merge below is to be taken with a grain of salt, as Warwick essentially cruised in to qualify, and are expected to place higher. Saratoga and Rush Henrietta are both accustomed to running on golf course style xc courses, and could challenge. Arlington is never out of it, using a tight compression to score some lower points at their sectionals. Its going to be a great way to finish off the day with this race. Plus, it only makes you wonder. If all of these teams decide to run NXN-NY, and you add in St. Anthony's and Chaminade of the CHSAA, and Walt Whitman who was left at the qualifier, it will be a monster race.

Breakdown: Nick Ryan is the top runner in the state, and almost in the country. Only Edward Cheserek has run better this year, and only just. Behind him is a plethora of talent that is almost too close to call. Eric Holt recently beat Sibby Hanson at the Section 1 qualifer, but Sibby had vowed to be saving something for the team battle next week. Mickey Burke was a Manhattan Letter race winner, Bryce Millar a top NY finisher in Manhattan Easterns, and Branigan an impressive run at his divisional. Again, a great race to watch, and an interesting dilemma for those wishing to predict who will qualify for a national meet later on in the season.

Challengers: ND BG has already put up impressive times all year, winning their race at Bowdoin in the Section 1 Coaches meet. At their qualifier, they packed all 5 guys in the front, and have been looking good. Franklin Academy look strong behind them, with East Aurora almost dead even.

Breakdown: Look for a McQuaid repeat showdown here. Ryan Manahan and TJ Hornberger are clear leaders in the state, and besides Class B, it will be interesting to see how high they place in the merge. Top 5 would not be unheard of for either of them. Throw in Ryan Udvadia, and you have a real race for Class B.

Challengers: Where Pawling was the top challenger last year, they are the favorite coming in this year. It won't be a cruise control run however, as Fonda-Fultonville looks strong. Both teams will have front runners battling it out at the top.

Breakdown: Jefferey Antolos is the odds on favorite year, after a strong race at the McQuaid Invite early on. Behind him looks like Matt Hoffman of Fonda, battling for second against Matt Jorgensen of Pawling. Shine has been known to peak at states, and could pull a big performance to take second here.

Challengers: New on the scene this year, Mount Academy has been running above class all year. Their squad has been top placing against Class A and Class B teams all season, and held their own at the Section 1 Coaches. Behind them is almost a toss up, but it looks like Barker has the goods to take the crown.
