EUGENE, Ore. -- Morgan Uceny '07 and Max King '02 excelled at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Oregon on Thursday, with Uceny advancing to the next round of the 1500-meter race and King finishing sixth in the 3K steeplechase final.

Uceny ran first, competing in the second section of the 1500 prelims.  With the top six and next six best times advancing, Uceny looked comfortable throughout. She shared the lead for the entire race before taking the lead for good with 200 meters to go.

Out in 69.1 seconds after 400 meters, 2:20.4 at 800 and 3:27.9 for 1200, Uceny ran her last 300 meters in 45.9 seconds and her final lap in 61.80. Her final time of 4:14.07 not only won her heat but was the fastest time of the day.

Uceny will compete in the 1500 semifinals at 6:45 p.m. eastern time on Friday.

In the men's 3K steeplechase final, King added to his legend with a personal best of 8:30.54 and a phenomenal sixth place run.

After taking four years away from the steeple to dominate the trail, mountain racing and Xterra racing circuit, King returned to the steeplechase last month to qualify for the Olympic Trials and, remarkably, saved the best race of his steeplechase career for Thursday. The top three runners in the 14-athlete field advanced to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
