EUGENE, Ore. -- Cornell high jumper
Montez Blair had a terrific afternoon on the west coast, using a jump of 7' 1 3/4" advancing to the final final of the men's high jump at the United States Olympic Trials at Hayward Field.
Clearing 7-1 3/4, Blair was the 10th-best jumper out of 24 in the preliminary round and one of the top 12 who advanced to Monday's final.
Blair cleared the opening height of 6' 10 3/4" on his second attempt, was over 7' 1/2" was on his first attempt and came through with a clutch third attempt clearance at 7' 1 3/4" to earn the right to jump another day.
The top three high jumpers on Monday will represent the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
