ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red men's track team received two honors on Monday afternoon as the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its region award winners.

Senior co-captain Nick Huber earned the USTFCCCA's Northeast Region Field Athlete of the Year award. Huber claimed the honor after winning the decathlon at the Outdoor Heptagonal Championships. Huber's score of 7,632 is now the school record and was the best record in Outdoor Heps history by more than 400 points. He tied fifth at the Outdoor Heps high jump and was also fourth in the 110 hurdles.

Huber will be competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships later this week in the decathlon. He qualified for the decathlon with his 7,632-point effort at Outdoor Heps.

Also being honored by the USTFCCCA was men's track coach Nathan Taylor, who was named the Northeast Region's Coach of the Year. Taylor and the Big Red were represented by 13 athletes at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville two weeks ago. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Huber and Montez Blair (high jump) will also be representing Cornell.

Under Taylor's guidance, Cornell was ranked as the top team in the Northeast Region for most of the season. The team finished second at the Outdoor Heps and second as well in the IC4A Outdoor Championships. Taylor, as the main jumps coach for the program, was represented by seven athletes himself at the NCAA East Regional in the four jumping events. Taylor was also named the Northeast Region Indoor Coach of the Year by the USTFCCA back in March.

On the women's side, head coach Rich Bowman was named the USTFCAA's Northeast Region Coach of the Year as well. Bowman's Big Red won the Outdoor Heps for the ninth time in 11 seasons, was third at the ECAC Outdoor Championships and had 13 athletes compete at the NCAA East Regional. Two Cornell athletes – Katie Kellner (10K) and Genna Hartung (3K steeplechase) will be vying for a national championship in Des Moines, Iowa, later this week.
