Pair of NY Leading Marks from Lions, Day 1

Somers NY - While only three running events took place on the track at Somers High School, two of those races saw state leading marks.

The first event on the track for the boys, the 4x1600 was billed as a battle between Warwick Valley and Arlington.  The race played out much like it was expected to, as the two teams pulled an early lead on the rest of the pack.  Trading positions, Warwick made the early surge, but Arlington returned the favor with its' second leg, Eddie Merenda, and his 4:19 leg.  Putting Arlington into the lead proved to cement their spot, as the lead was maintained throughout the race.  However, as the third leg was handing off to their respective anchors, the teams were evenly matched.  Arlington's anchor took off fast, and held on to a very impressive 4:12.8 split (hand-time) to finish in 17:26.  That is nearly 30 seconds faster than Saratoga's previous NY leading performance.

The action on the track didn't slow down, as the boys Sprint Medley Relay was equally as impressive.  The race included some fast teams from Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, and Half Hollow HillsMt. Vernon had the early lead at the 400m exchange, aided by their 48.5 leadoff.  But coming into the 800m anchor, Rye's Taylor Love took off on a sprinters pace, and held on for the win with a 1:53 split.  Their time of 3:29.5 puts them 4 seconds faster than the SMR run by Boys And Girls, the previous state leader.
