ITHACA, N.Y. – In very breezy conditions, the Cornell track teams hosted the Spring Invitational at Cornell on Friday and Saturday and came away from the meet with very good performances. The men picked up 12 event winners and 16 IC4A qualifiers in a field of teams that included many upstate New York schools as well as local clubs and local post-collegiate athletes.

The day got off to a good start in the 4x100 as sophomore Chris Bain, junior Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom, senior Chase Aaronson and sophomore Kinsley Ojukwu ran 41.20 to win with ease and easily best the Eastern standard.

Three from the relay came back in a windy (cross-wind more than a tail-wind) 100 final to produce impressive times: Bain was first at 10.60, Adarquah-Yiadom was fourth in 10.75 and Ojukwu ran 10.76 for fifth. Senior co-captain Dan Hagberg also competed very well, dipping under the IC4A standard in the prelims of the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.61 before running 14.32 (No. 5 all-time at Cornell) to place second in the final.

Earlier, Thomas ran 48.96 in the 400 for second while Olloqui was fifth in 49.84. The 800 showcased the Big Red's fine middle distance corps as 2012 indoor 800 IC4A champion, freshman Rutger Admirand, held off 2011 outdoor 800 Heps champion, junior Nick Wade, in a tight and exciting battle on the windy afternoon, 1:54.20 to 1:54.27. Sophomore Eric Bice was third in 1:55.64, sophomore Will Weinlandt fourth in 1:55.91 and former standout Gordon Hall '06 was fifth in 1:56.54.

The Big Red had several high-level performances in the field. In the throws, the Big Red swept three of the four throwing events with IC4A qualifying efforts. Senior co-captain Bob Belden won the shot put at 52' 4 1/2”, and later placed second in the discus at 153' 5” as freshman Jesse Braun was first in an IC4A-qualiyfing 161' 5”.
