Track Teams Split Up This Weekend for Meets in Stanford, Princeton, Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's and women's track teams will be divided this weekend, with distance runners traveling to Stanford, Calif., and Princeton, N.J., while the majority of both squads remains in Ithaca for the Cornell Open.
 
At Princeton for the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday, four Big Red men's runners will take part in the 5000-meter race: Andy Arnold, Max Groves, Gabe Heck and Ben Potts. Will McFall and John Schilkowsky will be participating in the 1500-meter run, and Kieran Kinnare and David Melly will compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
 
Three women's runners will join those eight men in Princeton on Saturday, as Marianne Collard, Janel Parker and Emily Shearer will race in the 1500.
 
Across the country at the Stanford Invitational, four Cornell  athletes will test their mettle against some of the country's top distance runners. Junior Katie Kellner will start in the top heat of the 10K, Rachel Sorna and Genna Hartung are running in the steeplechase, and Brett Kelly is taking part in the men's 10K.
 
The remainder of the Big Red track teams will stay home for the second consecutive weekend, this time competing against other schools from across the Northeast at the Cornell Open on Friday and Saturday. Joining in on the action will be Binghamton, Canisius, Cobleskill, Colgate, Cortland, Hamilton, Ithaca College, Oneonta, Syracuse, Toronto, Utica and various club teams.
 
Events begin at 3 p.m. on Friday with the men's decathlon 100-meter dash and women's heptathlon 100-meter hurdles at 3 p.m.
 
Action continues at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with the men's decathlon 100-meter hurdles and the decathlon discus at 10 a.m. The two-day competition will conclude with the women's 4x400 relay at 5:45 p.m. and the men's 4x400 at 6 p.m.
 
The Big Red track teams are coming off successful weekends at the Ithaca College Invitational where the men's side won eight events and the women's team won 14.
