Phil Ragan Earns MAAC Performer of the Week Honors

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - For the second consecutive week, a Manhattan College freshman has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Week.  Phil Ragan (Belmar, N.J.) was selected after setting a school record in the javelin throw at the FDU Knight Invitational on Saturday.

Competing in his first collegiate meet, Ragan uncorked a toss of 64.95 meters (213 feet, one inch) to win the event by more than seven meters and break Rajne Svenssohn's 10-year-old mark of 64.20 m (210'7).  With that effort, he qualified for both the IC4A Championships and NCAA East Regional, as well as the U.S. Junior Championships.

Last week, hammer thrower Anastas Papazov (Balchik, Bulgaria) was named MAAC Performer of the Week.

The Jaspers return to action with a pair of meets this weekend.  On Friday night, select athletes will participate in the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University, while the remainder of the squad will compete at Ramapo College's Roadrunner Invitational on Saturday.
