Brian McGovern Named to Armory All-Star Team

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College junior pole vaulter Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) has been named to the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center's annual Armory All-Star Team, it was announced on Sunday.  The Armory All-Star Team recognizes those athletes that had the best performance in their event at the Armory during the 2011-12 indoor season.

On Feb. 23, McGovern cleared 5.22 meters (17 feet, 1½ inches) at the Armory Collegiate Challenge to break his own school-record in the pole vault.  That mark was also the Irish under-23 national record in the event.  McGovern also won his third successive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) indoor title and took first place at the inaugural Millrose Games Collegiate Invitational at the Armory this season.

One athlete was selected to the Armory All-Star Team in each of the 40 events (20 men's, 20 women's) that was regularly contested at the venue in collegiate competition during the indoor season.  Among those performers, which included seven NCAA National Champions, men's and women's Armory College Athletes of the Year were selected.  Pitt's Brycen Spratling earned the men's honor, while Columbia's Marvellous Iheukwumere was named Armory College Athlete of the Year on the women's side.
