Statement: The unsung hero of upstate, Brian Smith proved you don't need a banked track to post a fast time. His time is good enough for a US #7, and a US #3 flat track time. Look for him next week at Nationals to lower his season best even more, as he has since gone undefeated this year.

Statement: The National record holder in the event, Strymar Livingston, took the race out hard, and never let it go. Giancarlo Sainato, a great runner in his own right, was right on Livingstons trail the entire race, but Livingston never broke stride to give Sainato the chance.

Event Info: 2011 Winner: Jesse Garn (Marcellus) 2:29.28, State Record: 2:24.1, State Qualifier Mark: 2:35.74
Statement: An interesting predicament for everyone involved, Zavon Watkins, who had gone 2:22 in the event before a DQ earlier in the season, was in the slower section of the 1000 due to a slow qualifying time. Unlike Watkins' usual tactics, he took off flying, and never let up, and ran a smooth 2:27.91 running against the clock. This provided an even bigger problem for the first section, as they weren't only competing against eachother, but also the time. Despite a great battle between Brian Crimmins and Christian Delago, it was Zavon's time that won the seeded section.

Event Info: 2011 Winner: Billy Gabriel (West Genesee) 4:16.91, State Record: 4:05.50, State Qualifier Mark: 4:28.74
Statement: The 1600m was a close race, as in the fact that the top boys were bunched up all the way through 1200m. As the pack began to disperse as kicks began, it was the pair from NYC that emerged as the leaders. Stuyvesant's Konrad Surkont kicked first, propelling him to the lead with 50 meters to go. However, with the finish line in sight, Thomas Awad of Chaminade began match Surkont step for step, posting the closest finish of the day for the boys. Awad managed to edge out Surkont at the last possible moment, which is made even more impressive by Awad's 3rd place finish earlier in the day with the 3200m run.

Event Info: 2011 Winner: Chad Noelle (Greene) 9:08.29, State Record: 8:50.40, State Qualifier Mark: 9:42.24
Statement: Similiar to the Girls' 3000, it was FM's Nick Ryan who took the race off hard, giving himself a nice buffer among the rest of the pack. Behind him was a very strong group of NY talent, including Sibby Hanson, who posted the US #1 non-converted time at his own state quals. However, as the pack began to catch up to Ryan, the man from Long Island started to pull away from Carmel's Eric Holt. Amazingly, North Babylon's Kris Moran didn't look strained or tired, despite the fast pace set by Ryan early on. Moran used this energy to propel him forward, winning the race in a kick that led to a 3 second margin for the win.

Statement: Greg Gallagher and Michael Brunoforte have been going at it all season. Close friends from the CHSAA, both have been managing to one-up the other throughout the season, until the pair reached a stalemate at 15-6 each towards the latter half of the season.
