Heps Schedule

ITHACA, N.Y. – Looking to reclaim the title it last won in 2010, the Cornell men's track and field team will be hosting the Indoor Heptagonal Championships at Barton Hall this weekend. The yearly championship features competition from all eight Ivy League schools. Cornell will be hosting for the first time since 2008.

When Heps begins on Saturday, the Big Red's 33 competitors will take the field having placed second each of the last two years. From 2003 to 2009, Cornell won five of seven Indoor Heps titles and all seven outdoor titles.

Last season, Princeton came away with the Indoor Heptagonal Championship, edging the Big Red by a 215-172 margin.

Saturday's competition starts with the men's weight throw finals at 11 a.m., continuing all the way through 6:30 p.m. when the women's 800-meter pentathlon run concludes the day. Many of Saturday's events will be preliminary runs for Sunday's finals, but there will also be finals for the long jump, pole vault, men's 3,000-meter run, women's 5,000-meter run and women's weight throw.  The entirety of the women's pentathlon will also take place Saturday.

On Sunday, the action resumes at 11 a.m. with the men's 60-meter heptathlon hurdles. Event finals will be contested throughout the rest of the afternoon. The weekend's affairs will end with the women's 4x400 relay.

Likely looking to defend individual championships from 2011 will be Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom (60-meter dash), Dan Hagberg (60-meter hurdles), Steven Bell (long jump) and Nick Huber (heptathlon).

While teams guard their lineups closely until Friday, also likely making the cut for Cornell's top 33 athletes based on performances this year will be Chase Aaronson (60-meter dash, long jump), Rutger Admirand (800 meters), Bob Belden (throws), Steven Bell (jumps), Montez Blair (jumps) Stephen Mozia (throws), Peter Roach and Josh Cusick (pole vault).  Full rosters for every team will be finalized Friday.

Tickets can be purchased at the Cornell Ticket Office or at CornellBigRedTickets.com. Tickets are $10 for adults or $5 for children 12 and under.
