Manhattan NY - After a distinct venue change, which has both been lauded and criticized, as well as a push back in the schedule by two weeks, it's finally time for The Millrose Games. Previously held at Madison Square Garden, the event has been moved to the New Balance Armory, which promises fast competition, and even faster times than ever before. The marque events, the HS Millrose Miles, look to excite as frontrunner Samantha Nadel of North Shore with have to compete with a strong squad of middle distance stars.
On the boys' side, look for New Willig of Great Valley (PA) to battle with Zavon Watkins of Liverpool (NY), a rematch after Willig edged-out Watkins in the 1000m run at the New Balance Collegiate in which both athletes would later be DQ'ed from due to a lane violation.
The high school action doesn't stop there, as three elite high schoolers will be toeing the line against the pros. Look for Edward Cheserek of St. Benedict's Prep (NJ) to be running against Millrose legend Bernard Lagat in the 5000m run. Cheserek is looking for the high school record, an attainable feat, while the rest of the field has a very good chance of taking down the collegiate and american records as well.
Next up, you can look no further than the 500m dash to find New York City's own Strymar Livingston of Christopher Columbus facing Olympian Lashawn Merritt. Merritt has been promised a hefty sum if breaks the world record for the event, so expect the race to go out fast, and possibly take Livingston to a time that could break his own high school record of 1:01.7.
Finally, in the Women's 800, you'll find Ajee Wilson of Neptune (NJ), who has also run the Elite 800m at the US Open and the New Balance Grand Prix in the past two weeks. The meet also includes a slew of well known Olympian and Collegiate standouts. For more information on the Olympic side of the meet, look no further than LetsRun.com's stellar meet preview.
