RIVERDALE, N.Y. - In just her second meet as a Jasper, Karolin Wagner (Ribbesbuettel, Germany) earned a place in the Manhattan College indoor track & field record book on Friday afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium. She cleared 3.71 meters (12 feet, two inches) to break Jenna Daly's six-year old school record in the women's pole vault by one centimeter. Her performance was the highlight of day one at the Brother Jasper Invitational.
Wagner's leap, which qualified her for the ECAC Championships, bettered Daly's mark of 3.70 m (12'1½) set on Feb. 4, 2005. Sarah Moore (Irvington, N.Y.) and Melissa Yap (Orchard Park, N.Y.) both cleared 3.30 m (10'10) in the pole vault competition, and Kelsey Huntoon (Monroe, Mich.) had a personal-best effort of 10.83 m (35'6½) in the women's weight throw.
In the men's pole vault, Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) flirted with 16 feet for the second straight week. McGovern won the competition with a 4.85 m (15'11) clearance. Also in the men's pole vault, Yardley Keshinover (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) qualified for the Metropolitan Championships with a personal-best jump of 4.30 m (14'1¼). Roman Ewald (Olching, Germany) finished second in the men's weight throw (17.40 m, 57'1) and Felix Siljeback-Larsen (Vasteras, Sweden) was the leader after day one of the heptathlon with 2801 points.
The remainder of the meet, including a full slate of running events, will take place on Saturday. Competition gets underway at 10:30 a.m. with the conclusion of the heptathlon. The running events begin at 2 p.m.
