AMHERST, N.Y. - With berths in the NCAA Championships on the line, the Manhattan College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NCAA Northeast Regional at the Amherst Audubon Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.  The Jasper men secured a 29th-place finish, while the Manhattan women's team placed 34th overall.

The men's race was held over a 10,000-meter course, 2000 meters than the typical race.  Continuing his solid season, Billy Wilkens (Kenmore, Wash.) paced the Jaspers with a time of 23:35.2, good enough for 145th place.  Manhattan's No. 2 finisher was Anthony Colasurdo (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.), who placed 172nd in 35:03.6.  Zack Price (Warwick, N.Y.) posted a time of 35:32.7 to capture 185th place.  Tom Daly (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished 192nd and 193rd, respectively.  Daly notched a time of 35:46.9, while Voorheis crossed the line in 35:49.2.  Rounding out Manhattan's finishers were Salim Corbin (Patterson, N.J.) (201st, 36:14.4) and Mikael Rojeras (Sala, Sweden) (212th, 36:41.9).

The top two teams at each of the eight regional meets, as well as 13 at-large selections, qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.  Syracuse and Iona were the NCAA qualifiers on the men's side, and the Gaels' Leonard Korir was the individual champion (31:10.4).  Manhattan collected 887 team points.

Due to injuries, Manhattan fielded a team of just six competitors in the women's race.  Competing in her final cross country race in a Manhattan uniform, Maria Jangsten (Gothenburg, Sweden) led the way for the Jaspers, finishing 139th in a time of 23:35.2.  Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) completed the 6000-meter course in 24:46.9, good enough for 203rd place.  Johanna Petruski (Toms River, N.J.) was the next Manhattan finisher.  She took 215th in 25:26.6.  Up next was Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.), whose 25:43.8 clocking resulted in a 221st-place finish.  Meghan Marro (Cherry Hill, N.J.) (225th, 26:00.2) and Alyssa Windle (Redlands, Calif.) (227th, 26:11.2) completed Manhattan's finishers.

Manhattan finished with 1003 points in the team standings.  Qualifying for the NCAA Championships on the women's side were Syracuse and Boston College.  The individual winner was Dartmouth's Abbey D'Agostino, who notched a time of 20:25.3.

While the NCAA Regionals marked the final meet of the season for the women's squad, the men's team has one competition remaining.  The Jaspers complete the season at the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park next Saturday.
