POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 5, 2011) - The Vassar College women's cross country team returned to the Vassar Farm Cross Country course one more time this fall in a Late Season Invitational with SUNY New Paltz. The 5,000m race was won by Vassar senior Erin Lefkowitz in 20:23, with fellow senior Melissa McClung just seconds behind. Samantha Harris was New Paltz's first finisher in 20:40. Vassar lead New Paltz 28 to 38 in the team scoring.

The competition allowed a rare point to point comparison to view progress over the course of the season, as both teams ran the same course September 3 at the Vassar Invitational.

"It is great getting to see the progress the runners have made over the course of the season and their careers," said head coach McCowan. "Erin ran nearly two minutes faster than she did for the same course back in September, and 3 minutes and 20 seconds faster than she ran her freshman year. As a coach, there is no greater joy than seeing the student-athletes improve."

Both teams rested their top seven runners in preparation for next week's NCAA Atlantic Regional Meet, which will take place at Saint Lawrence University next Saturday, November 12.
