RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College's Billy Wilkens (Kenmore, Wash.) and Maria Jangsten (Gothenburg, Sweden) have been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week for their performances at Friday afternoon's Metropolitan Championships. Wilkens placed 35th overall to lead the men's team, while Jangsten took 32nd in the women's race.
Wilkens was Manhattan's top finisher over the 8000-meter Van Cortlandt Park course. He notched a season-best time of 27:04 to lead the Jaspers to fifth place in the team standings. On the women's side, Jangsten led Manhattan to a seventh-place finish. She completed the 5000 meters in 19:39.
The Metropolitan Championships was Manhattan's last competition before the MAAC Championships, which will also take place at Van Cortlandt Park on Oct. 28.
