Chenoweth, Hibbs Tabbed To XC / Track Staff

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College men's cross country / track and field head coach Ricardo Santos announced the appointment of Brian Chenoweth as an assistant coach for the program. Former Maroon & Gold standout Josh Hibbs will serve as the squad's volunteer assistant.

Chenoweth joins the staff full-time after filling the position vacated by former associate head coach Gavin Kennedy who is now the head cross country and assistant track coach at the University of Illinois. He and Hibbs will work alongside Santos and assistant coach Joe Pienta.

Chenoweth spent the 2010-11 campaign as a volunteer assistant for the Gaels. A USAFTF Level 1 Certified Coach, he helped mentor the Gaels to both men's and women's cross country MAAC Championships. It was the 20th straight title for the men and sixth straight for the women. The men's program went on to finish second at Northeast Regionals and continued extended its Top 10 finish stretch to nine years with an eighth place performance in Terre Haute.

Prior to his arrival in New Rochelle, Chenoweth was a volunteer assistant at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa in the spring of 2010. The Storm saw one Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion and five all-conference performers.

Chenoweth earned his degree in finance in 2009 from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He was a five-time NCAA Division III All-American in cross country and track for the Knights. Chenoweth also earned three All-Region selections in cross country and was a nine-time IIAC champion in both cross country and track.

Hibbs graduated in the winter of 2010 earning a degree in international studies and is currently pursuing a master's degree in adolescent education. He was a five-time All-MAAC performer in both cross country and track. Hibbs competed on three Northeast Regional teams helping the Gaels to two titles during his tenure at Iona. He also competed on Iona's NCAA Championship race teams in both 2009 and 2010.

On the outdoor track, Hibbs' specialty was the 3,000-meter steeplechase event. He earned All-MAAC honors in the event as a sophomore, junior and senior and this past May (2011) earned a berth into the NCAA Championship quarterfinal round of the event.
