ITHACA, N.Y. – Max King '02, who was co-captain of the track team and won the steeplechase at Heps and the IC4As his junior season, won the World Mountain Running Championships in Albania on Sunday.

King's time of 52:06 on the 12.7K course was strong enough to earn a win for an American for the first time since 1987. The race, which was aired nationally on Albanian television, is usually dominated by competitors from East African nations.

King's performance also helped the United States to a fourth-place overall finish. King won the U.S. mountain running championship in June.
