Liberty League Honors Four Athletes From Three Programs

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 5, 2011) -- Following the official opening of Vassar athletics for the 2011-12 year, the Liberty League bestowed weekly honors upon four athletes from three programs as Justin Rupert and Eliot Gerson of men's cross country, Aubree Piepmeier of women's cross country, and Kelsey Domb of women's soccer earned awards.

Justin Rupert, Senior, Men's Cross Country, Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week

Justin Rupert
Rupert led the Brewers to their ninth straight VC Invitational title with a 36 margin over their nearest opponent. Rupert was the 6k champion (second overall) amongst a field of 105 participants with a 20:07 (5:24 per mile) time. It was a 19 second improvement from his previous season's performance. Rupert's time was his personal best on Vassar's Farm Course.

A 2008 graduate of Wellsboro Area High School, Rupert lettered in four years in cross country. He earned Second Team All-Star as a freshman, and First Team All-Star as a sophomore, junior, and senior. He lettered four years in wrestling.

Eliot Gerson, Freshman, Men's Cross Country, Liberty League Rookie of the Week

In his first intercollegiate cross country race, Gerson helped lead the Brewers to their ninth straight Invitational title. He finished the 6k race third overall (second for Vassar) with a 20:09 (5:25 per mile) time. In a race with 105 runners, Gerson was the second overall collegiate finisher and was just two seconds off the winning time.

Aubree Piepmeier, Sophomore, Women's Cross Country, Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week

Piepmeier spearheaded Vassar's sixth straight Invitational title. She finished second overall in the 5k race that featured 121 runners. She finished the race in 20:01 (6:27 per mile) and became Vassar's top finisher in a cross country race for the first time in her young career.

Piepmeier lettered three years in cross country, three years in indoor track, and four years in outdoor track at Franklin High School for head coach Paul Trovato. She captained all three teams as a senior and won the Hockomock League indoor track 1000-meter run as a junior.

Kelsey Domb, Freshman Forward, Women's Soccer, Liberty League Rookie of the Week

Freshman Kelsey Domb scored two goals in a 2-1 week for Vassar. She scored the second goal of a 2-0 win over New Paltz on a header and the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute of a 2-1 win over Lasell.

Domb won the South Texas State Championships with the No. 12 nationally ranked Lonestars in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2010. In 2008, she helped the Lonestars to the 2008 USYSA Region III Championship and a third Place in the USYSA National Championship. For Round Rock High School, Domb earned the 2008 District 15-5A Newcomer of the Year award and was named First Team All-District and All-District Academic in 2008, 2009, and 2010. She was selected as her team's offensive MVP in 2010 and named captain in 2011.
