12/3 WKND

The 2005 Pennsylvania Foot Locker Finalists needed some workouts, and they also needed some qualifying times for the Indoor season. Lucky for them there were some meets with good competition the week between the regional and the finals.

At the DVGTCA meet on 12/2 at Lehigh University, Conestoga\'s Liz Costello showed some of the strength that carried her through cross country season so successfully, running virtually alone to a very quick 10:12.9, reportedly the #7 all-time association indoor best. Costello came through the mile in 5:31 and closed the last 200 in 34 seconds. Starting her season off with a better-than-nice early season throw was Penncrest sophomore Karen Shump, sending the weight 44-11.50 to set a fieldhouse record and association record, breaking the former 42-02.75 mark set in 2000 by North Penn\'s Jessica Johnson, and her own 43-11.50 set in 2004. Fellow sophomore star Ryann Kraiis of Methacton posted a 58.2 400 to beat Council Rock South\'s Ijeoma Iheoma by a second, and Girls High\'s Chanel Tartt-Minor by two. LSU-bound Latavia Thomas of West Catholic ran to a 3:09.0 1000m. In other field events, Bishop Shanahan\'s Caitlin Fairbairn cleared 10-06 in the Pole Vault. Clarenchell Tate got in some field and track work, going 17-04.50 in the Long Jump, and 41.1 to take the 300m. And West Catholic\'s Kneshia Sheard ran an 8.3 to take the 55 Hurdles.

Costello\'s fellow Foot Locker qualifiers Keith Capecci, Council Rock North, and Josh Hibbs of Hatboro-Horsham were on the winning end of things in the 12/3 TFCAGP Division 1 meet with Capecci setting a very fast first-race standard of 8:53.1 in the 3000. The mark broke former Council Rock and FL Finalist Dan Coval\'s 2000 meet record of 8:54.4. Hibbs anchored his team\'s DMR to a strong 10:57.1. Kenneth Talley of Simon Gratz went 22.8 to win the 200. And Nathan Stewart, Glen Mills, wook the Shot Put with a throw of 50-11.

In the TFCAGP Division II meet, also on 12/3, Florida signee Carrington Queen of Chichester bettered the meet record in the 60 hurdles by a tenth, going 8.0, with Clemson signee Kamal Marell of Penn Charter matching the former record to get 2nd. Strath Haven and Downingtown East dueled in the DMR, with Haven going 11:08.4 to win by just over four seconds. Strath Haven\'s Scott Henkelman leapt 21-05.50 to win the Long Jump, and Exeter\'s Trais Savidge went 44-00 to capture the Triple Jump.
