ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell University men's track and field team, winners of 14 of the last 20 Heptagonal championships, has earned accolades for their efforts in the classroom as well. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honored the Big Red as a Division I All-Academic team for the 2011 season.

In all, 90 programs around the country earned the distinction as a result of registering a team grade point average of 3.0 or better. Seven of the eight Ivy League schools were honored to rank second among conference's, behind only eight Big 12 squads.

Last week, Cornell had eight men's student-athletes honored by the USTFCCCA on the All-Academic Track & Field team (Chris Arlinghaus, Bob Belden, Josh Cusick, Adrien Dannemiller, Nate Edelman, Dan Hagberg, Drew Hart and Nick Huber). To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
