Patrignelli leads four New Yorker's into Jr. 1500m final

Mary Cain (Bronxville, NY) won the first of two heats in 4:30.19 to earn her auto spot in the 1500m final.  The freshman ran 4:17.84 at the NY State Championships two weeks ago to set the NY State record.  It will be interesting to see how Cain runs in the final.  When she ran 4:17 she led wire to wire and when she tried to outkick some girls last weekend at NBON it didn't go that well for her, as she placed 5th. (Of course she had run 2:03.74 the night before in the 4x8).

Megan Patrignelli, the Oregon freshman from Monroe Woodbury, NY, also made the final when she ran 4:26.95 in the second heat.  Rachel Paul of Sachem East High School on Long Island ran 4:27.69 to earn her spot.  Paul is a junior who in any almost other year could have been the state champion at 1500m.

Albany's Kathryn Fanning was yet another New Yorker to make the final.  Her 4:34.46 earned her one of the final qualifying spots.  Fanning is a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius HS.

Molly McNamara, a recent graduate of Red Bank Catholic in Red Bank, NJ, finished right behind Cain in the first heat to earn an auto spot.  McNamara was a star all winter here at The Armory, placing in The Millrose Trials, The New Balance Games, and the Collegiate Invitational.

The final will be contested at 9:30pm eastern Saturday night.
