Colin Quirke Named Second Team All-American

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Junior Colin Quirke (Los Gatos, Calif.) of the Manhattan College men's track & field has been awarded Second Team All-America honors by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).  Quirke placed 15th in the discus throw at last weekend's NCAA Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Competing in his first NCAA Championships, Quirke uncorked a toss of 53.62 meters (175 feet, 11 inches) to capture 15th place out of 24 participants in the event.  He becomes Manhattan's first All-American since shot putter Milan Jotanovic earned a place on the first team in 2009.

All athletes that contributed team points (top eight in each event) at the NCAA Championships were named First Team All-American.  Those that finished between ninth- and 16th-place were recognized as Second Team All-Americans, while all others who competed in Des Moines earned All-America honorable mention status.
