6/10/2011 11:08:30 AM

DES MOINES, Iowa --  Severe thunderstorms suspended action in the second day of the NCAA Championships at Drake University, but not before junior Nick Huber continued competition in the decathlon. He will finish the suspended events on Friday.

Before the meet was halted, Huber continued in the decathlon after day one's first five events. On Thursday, Huber ran 14.98 for the 110-meter high hurdles (852 points), threw the discus 41.32 meters (135-6 3/4, 691 points), and cleared 4.70 meters (15-5) in the pole vault (819 points). Just before the storm blew in, Huber was able to take two attempts in the javelin, recording a personal best of 48.75 meters (159-11, 570 points). When the meet resumes, Huber will get one more attempt in the javelin and will conclude with the 1,500 meter run.  Going into the javelin competition, Huber was in 15th place with 6,265 points through eight events.

Senior Nate Edelman was scheduled to compete in the 10,000 meters, but will now compete on Friday at 4:00 p.m. when the meet resumes. Senior Gary Jones will compete in the triple jump on Saturday.
