ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's and women's track and field teams will send 19 athletes to the NCAA Preliminary Round, East Region this week in Bloomington, Ind., with the goal of advancing to the NCAA Championships, to be held June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa. Below is a primer of when each of the 19 will be competing, along with what it will take for them to be among the 24 finalists in each event who advance to Des Moines.

Fans in Ithaca and around the globe can keep track of the action through live streaming video and real-time results from the Indiana University website. Links are posted just below the main banner on the page.

Nick Huber - Decathlon
Huber will not need to compete this weekend, as he has already clinched a spot in Des Moines with the 14th-best mark in the decathlon this season. The top 24 marks automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Steven Bell & Gary Jones - Triple Jump
The men's triple jump will be held on Friday at 6 p.m. The 48 athletes will be divided into four flights of 12, with each jumper getting three attempts. The top 16 athletes will advance to the site finals, where they will receive another three jumps to improve on their mark from the first round. The top 12 athletes will advance to Des Moines.

Steven Bell - Long Jump
The men's long jump will be contested on Thursday at 6 p.m. The qualification procedures for the long jump are the same as the procedures for the triple jump, with the final 12 athletes advancing to Des Moines.

Bob Belden - Shot Put
The men's shot put will be contested on Thursday at 1 p.m. The qualification procedures for the shot put are identical to those for the men's long and triple jump, with four flights of 12 throwers with three throws apiece. The top 16 marks will advance to the site finals and receive another three throws, with the top 12 marks advancing to Des Moines.

Chris Arlinghaus - High Jump
The men's high jump will begin on Thursday at 1 p.m. The 48 athletes will be divided into two groups of 24, jumping simultaneously. Athletes will continue jumping at increasing heights until 12 athletes remain, with a jump-off held if necessary to determine the 12 athletes advancing to the NCAA Championships.

Kimberly Standridge & Nick Wade - 800m
The women's 800m first round will be held on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., with the men's first round run at 7:00 p.m. The 48 athletes will be divided into six heats of eight, with the top three per heat plus the next six fastest times, will advance to the quarterfinal round. The women's quarterfinal will be contested on Friday at 6:30 p.m., with the men's being run Friday at 6:45. In the quarterfinal round, the top three per heat and the next three fastest times will advance to Des Moines.
