Guzick, Piepmeier, and Law Earn Weekly Awards

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 16, 2011) – Although Vassar College athletic teams competed in only two events last weekend, Andrew Guzick of men's tennis and Aubree Piepmeier and Jenica Law of women's track earned Liberty League awards.

At the NCAA Championships against No. 13 Johns Hopkins, Guzick teamed with Max Willner to knock off the Atlantic South No. 7 ranked team of Warren Elgort and Andrew Wang 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. Against Wang, also an NCAA individual qualifier, Guzick won the first set 7-6, 7-2 in the tiebreaker, and was on serve at 2-3 in the second. This is his eighth career Liberty League Performer of the Week award. Ranked No. 7 nationally and No. 5 in the Northeast, he was selected by the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Committee to compete in the singles competition of the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships in Claremont, CA on May 27-29. In the Fall, Guzick won the ITA Northeast Regional Championship and recorded the program's first singles win at the National Small College Championships. Last year, Guzick was named name Liberty League Rookie of the Week eight times and won the Liberty League Rookie of the Year. A 2009 graduate of the Harley School, Guzick was a five-year letter winner in tennis. He was named Finger Lakes All-League his sophomore through senior year and selected to the All Greater Rochester team as a junior and senior. At Harley, his team was ranked No. 10 in the nation his senior year and No. 7 his junior year.

Aubree Piepmeier, Women's Track, Liberty League Rookie of the Week
At the Oneonta Last Chance Meet, Piepmeier finished third in the 1,500 meter race in 4:52, a new personal best that surpassed her previous mark of 5:05. This is Piepmeier's sixth weekly award. Earlier this season, Piepmeier ran a 17:37.33 in the 5000 meters to earn a spot in the ECAC Championships and the USATF Junior National Championships in Eugene, Oregon. A 2010 graduate of Franklin High School (MA), Piepmeier lettered three years in and also competed in indoor and outdoor track and field and captained all three teams as a senior. As a junior, she won the Hockamock League Indoor 1000m event.

Jenica Law
Jenica Law, Senior, Liberty League Co-Track Performer of the Week

At the Oneonta Last Chance Meet, senior Jenica Law set a new personal best in the 800 meters (2:21.88), concluding an outstanding four year career. This is her second career Liberty League weekly award. A 2007 graduate of Henry M. Gunn High School, Law lettered four years in track & field for coach Ernie Lee, serving as captain as a junior and senior. She won triple jump and long jump at the SCVAL League Championships. A three-sport athlete, Law also lettered two years in volleyball for coach Matt Hoffman and two years in basketball for Sarah Strapp.
