Men's Track Finishes Fourth At IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Competing at the historic IC4A Championships at Princeton this weekend, the Cornell men's track and field team placed an impressive fourth with nine scoring efforts en route to 42 points.

The meet began well on Friday in the distance races. Senior co-captain Adrien Dannemiller placed fourth in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 8:58.97 and classmate Nate Edelman was seventh in the 5K with a time of 14:08.50.

On Saturday, the Big Red saw several relays and individuals qualify to Sunday's final. Junior Brian Freitas ran 42.25 to advance in the 400 hurdles and sophomore Nick Wade ran 1:50.40 to move forward in the 800. The quartet of junior Chase Aaronson, sophomore Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom, senior Andy Ahart and senior Chris Tait ran 41.23 to advance in the 4X100 while junior Dan Thomas (48.2), Tait (47.3), Freitas (48.0) and senior Cody Boyd (48.2) ran a seasonal best 3:12.36 to advance in the 4X400.

The Big Red had a very good showing on Sunday to close out the meet. The Big Red got off to a good start in the first two field events of the day as junior Chris Arlinghaus cleared 6-10 3/4 to place sixth in the high jump while junior Bob Belden placed fourth in the shot put at 55-1 1/2. The Big Red also had strong performances in the triple jump: senior Gary Jones placed third with a seasonal best of 51-3 3/4 and freshmen Steven Bell (48-5 1/4) and Dan Scott (48-4 1/2) placed seventh and eighth. Back on the track, the 4X100 of freshman Justin McCollin, Adarquah-Yiadom, Ahart and Tait moved to #6 all-time at Cornell with a fourth place run of 40.80. Wade came back with his fifth 1:50 800 in the past eight days to place fourth in 1:50.03 and Freitas ran 52.14 for a solid sixth. The 4X400 of Thomas (47.7), Tait (47.2), Freitas (47.2) and Boyd (48.4) closed out the meet for Cornell with a terrific race to place fourth in 3:10.65, #5 all-time at Cornell.

Although many Cornell athletes who had qualified stayed in Ithaca due to exams or to recover after last week's Heps, there were several other Cornellians who competed this weekend: Adarquah-Yiadom (14th, 10.84) and Ahart (17th, 10.91) in the 100, McCollin (20th, 22.09) in the 200, Thomas (18th, 48.64) and Boyd (25th, 49.20) in the 400, sophomore Andy Arnold (15th, 3:51.25) in the 1500, senior Matt De Silva (16th, 14:22.35), sophomore Matt McCullough (25th, 14:33.23) and sophomore Bobby Micikas (33rd, 14:52.56) in the 5000, senior Steve Soprano (20th, 31:20.49) and sophomore Brett Kelly (25th, 31:45.05) in the 10K, junior Dan Hagberg (20th, 14.86) and sophomore Zach Zeller (32nd, 15.29) in the 110 hurdles, junior Ken McClain (22nd, 54.68) in the 400 hurdles, Aaronson (9th, 22-11 1/4), Bell (11th, 22:10 1/2), freshman Hercules Stancil (23rd, 22-3 3/4) and sophomore Jourdan White (28th, 21-6 3/4) in the long jump, senior Julian Remouns (16th, 46-11) in the triple jump, Belden (12th, 159-4) in the discus, senior Alex Holcombe (9th, 6214) in the decathlon and freshmen Peter Roach and David Kim in the pole vault as well as the 4X800 of freshman Steve Harshman (1:54.8), junior Chris Jakobson (1:52.9), senior Tommy Roy (1:53.2) and freshman Eric Bice (1:56.7) which ran 7:37.75 for 16th.

Next up for the Big Red is the First Round of the NCAA Championships in Bloomington, IN from May 26-28 where Cornell will compete against the best for the right to advance to the Final Round in Des Moines, IA from June 8-11. The fields for the First Round will be formally announced on Thursday, May 19.
