ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's track and field team finished up the regular season with their final home competition of the year on Sunday, hosting several colleges and club teams at the Big Red Invitational at the Kane Sports Complex.   

The Big Red had strong performances in their final regular season meet and in their final tune-up before the Heps. Junior Chandler Kemp had a busy day, placing second in the 3000 steeplechase in 9:35.23 in the first event of the meet and then came back to win the 10K to close the meet, just missing the IC4A standard with a time of 31:12.64. Freshman David Forward placed third in the 10K in 32:27.06 while senior Tom Shouler ran 33:08.76 for third. The Big Red had a pair of IC4A qualifying efforts in the hurdles. Junior Ken McClain placed second in the 400 hurdles in 53.74 and classmate Dan Hagberg ran 14.55 in the first round of the 110 hurdles. Sophomore Zach Zeller placed fourth in the finals in 14.85. In the 1500, senior Nate Edelman placed second in 3:58.85 while freshman Eric Bice was third in 3:59.07. The Big Red had a similar 2-3 finish in the 800 as freshman John Schilkowski ran 1:53.87 and sophomore Andy Arnold ran 1:54.25.

The Big Red had good showings in the field as well. Freshman Jon Gancas threw 170-8 to win the javelin, sophomore Bob Fiedler threw 146-6 for fifth in the hammer, junior Nick Huber threw 158-9 for fourth in the javelin and also placed fourthin clearing 6-2 1/4 in the high jump, freshman David Salbert was fourth in the triple jump at 45-1 and freshman Peter Roach cleared 15-3 to get fourth in the pole vault.
