Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY / Longwood) broke the five-year old school record in the 10,000 meter run at the METS Outdoor Championships on the campus of Rutgers. The junior distance runner shattered the previous school record as he clocked in at 31:07.2, a full 12 seconds ahead of the pack while registering an IC4A qualifying mark in the process.
Sheena Taylor (Twinsburg, OH / Detroit Mercy) threw her way into the record books with a mark of 13.06 meters in the shot put. The junior's record-breaking performance earned her fourth place in the event. Taylor also captured fifth place in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.56 meters.
Battling the elements of rain and high winds, all four Seahawks that competed in the 5,000 meter run set personal-records. On the women's side, Staten Island natives
Taylor Fredrickson (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) and
Alexis Bivona (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) finished sixth (18:19.4) and 11th (18:35.8), respectively, as each posted a personal-best in the event.
For the men's team,
Matt Driscoll (Lewiston, ME / Lewiston) finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 15:20.3 while
Derek Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY / Miller Place) clocked in with a career-best time of 15:29.7, good for seventh place.
In the 800 meters, impressive finishes were registered on both sides.
Cameo Kirk (Ocean Port, NJ / Shore Regional) captured fourth place on the women's side with a time of 2:23.68 while
Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY / MacArthur) clocked in at 2:25.37 for 13th.
On the men's side, freshman
Daniel Zaccariello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph's By The Sea) placed 12th with a time of 2:03.72. Zaccariello also finished 12th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:14.47.
Wagner's track & field teams return to action on April 22 at the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, VA.
